Non woven landscape fabric also known as non-woven geotextile. They allow water to flow through easily and are strong and durable for landscape drainage. Nonwoven geotextiles are most commonly used as landscape materials to support adequate drainage, filtration and ground stabilisation.
These fabrics are available in lightweight, medium weight and heavyweight and feel like felt.
Non woven landscape fabric Gram Weight Classification:
Lightweight (2 oz. to 3 oz.)
High flow rate, substrate cushioning and drain field type applications. 3 ounce counterweights are typically used behind retaining walls as a barrier between dirt and gravel.
Medium Weight (4 oz. to 6 oz.)
Medium weight Non woven landscape fabric allows water to penetrate without displacing existing soil. It also helps control soil erosion, separation and drainage features (French drains). In addition, we have seen these weighted fabrics used under gravel paths to act as a separation barrier between the gravel and the soil below.
Heavyweight (8 oz. to 16 oz.)
Heavyweight Non woven landscape fabric are ideal for applications that require strength and permeability. They are more resistant to punctures and their durability makes them a good choice for applications in retaining walls and artificial lakes under large gravel, geomembrane cushions. Note that at the upper end of the weight range (above 10 oz), water flow is significantly reduced due to the thickness of the material.
Heavyweight Non woven landscape fabric have also been used as a barrier for sand under volleyball courts (8 oz.) and to prevent mixing of ballast and soil under railway tracks (16 oz.).
